Decorating a young tween girl’s bedroom could be a challenge. Naturally, they want input in the design but what makes it harder is creating a space that can transition into a young teen room without feeling outdated. When my little Lucy requested pink walls I cringed. Yes, I was hoping for some shade of white but pink it had to be. Little did she know that dusty rose was the new pink. She has an accent wall (wood paneling) on one side of the room that I wanted to create a sort of ombre or rainbow pattern and then style it with a unique piece to showcase the dusty rose paint colors. After some trial and error, I finally completed the accent wall and found the perfect piece!
Dusty Rose Paint Colors – Rainbow Accent Wall
If you follow along on my instagram stories you know that I initally wanted an ombre of dusty rose on the accent wall. BUT, with the creases in the wood paneling I just couldn’t get it to look fluid. Halfway through the process I had to change it up and decided to do a modern rainbow of dusty rose paint colors, going from dark (in the middle) to the lighter shades meeting the other walls.
In order to create the additional shades of the rainbow I mixed the two colors 50/50 for each of the paints moving towards the lighter shade. The main paint colors I used were:
- First Light
- 50/50 First Light and Honey Hut
- Honey Hut
- 50/50 Honey Hut and Rose Bisque
- Rose Bisque
- 50/50 Rose Bisque and Brown Teepee
- Brown Teepee
With the walls completed it was time to start planning the furniture pieces. I knew I needed a bookcase on the accent wall. But, just not any bookcase! Something that would store toys, books, and possibly have the capability of not covering up my rainbow wall.
I was so excited to find a modern white bookcase that met all my design needs plus functionality. The Madison Avenue Geometric Bookcase is a stylish modern piece by Kathy Ireland Home I found at National Business Furniture. The asymmetrical design has open and closed storage (to hide some of lucy’s not-so-cute toys) plus open shelving to showcase my rainbow accent wall! I have officially completed this part of lucy’s room and couldn’t be happier. The bookcase is truly the perfect piece of a tween girls’ space or a home office. I would definitely select this piece again if I had the opportunity to decorate my own home office. It is a solid piece made to last and it is finished on all sides, so it could easily be used as a room divider.
I have had such a good experience working with National Business Furniture that I am excited to complete the rest of Lucy’s tween room makeover with a new desk space from their Brite collection. Stay tune in to the next blog post for her under bed desk reveal. And don’t forget to use code
