How To Style A Nighstand
We always leave our own bedrooms last when it comes to decorating. But this month I was able to update my space with a few simple tips. I have written a few blog articles for another blog site sharing my fundamental tabletop tips and they apply to the nightstand as well. Even though we have a smaller surface area to work with, the basics are still the same and a couple of key elements are necessary to make the nightstand become a stylish focal point in the bedroom.
When it comes to nightstand tables you don’t have to always buy new. Repurposing one you have with a fresh coat of paint can give any space new life. I had a solid wood nightstand that I love, I am a huge fan of having a bottom shelf for a nightstand and a drawer. Plus, I couldn’t find a new one I liked and within my budget so I decided to give this one new life with Decorators White by Benjamin Moore and new hardware.
Design tips on how to style a nightstand
- Create height with a lamp or picture frame (a wall sconce works great too)
- Add an organic or natural element
- Add a tray as a catch-all
- Add the smalls
When styling a tabletop always use the simple rule of 3 to create varying heights. Tall, medium, low. I was able to do that here with the picture frame, then the candle and clock, plus top it off with the “smalls,” marble bowls for my jewelry.
I always add an organic/natural element when it comes to styling. It can be a fresh vase of flowers, an orchid, seashells, or even natural stone geodes as bookends.
