Entryway Essentials – Design Tips
I have always said that the entryway or foyer is one of the most important rooms in the home. Whether it is for my design clients or home staging, the first impression room, entryway, is a space that merits a little investment. It is the space that every single guest will see first and last as they arrive and leave the home.
Last year, when I gutted the entryway and kitchen it took me a while to find the perfect entryway essentials for my space. I tried a few different mirrors, ottomans, tables and nothing felt right, until now. I am so glad I waited and found the perfect piece. The Elkton 3 Drawer Accent Chest. It is a gorgeous piece. It is advertised as a master bedroom nightstand or side tables in the bedroom. I so wish I had a larger bedroom to add two of these as nightstands in another color.
It comes in seven different colors! I love the white and light gray for bedrooms or the teal for a little girl’s room. If I had my own office space the gold hue would be perfect as file cabinets.
Anyhoo, I regress. So, there are few entryway essentials needed that can update any space. A few key elements that are necessary to make the entryway become a stylish focal point in the home. By adding these ideas your entryway will not only look finished but feel complete.
A Few Key Entryway Essentials
- Table: (I have always preferred one with a drawer(s) to store items such as keys, garage opener, or even kids gloves/hats
- Mirror or Art Piece: I love how this creates substance in the small space
- A Lamp and/or Books: When it comes to lighting, select a table lamp that will add height to your tabletop. Your lamp will most likely be your “tall” aspect of the nightstand adding height to the space. However, you want to be careful that it doesn’t take over the table. Leave room for accessorizing. If you have a smaller table, opt for an orchid to add height. No need to stick with table lamps. Now add some books. I like to use 3 vintage books with a color spine or design books. The books will almost always be stacked horizontally to create a “shelf” for another accessory, like a candle or a trinket dish.
- Add The Smalls – Catch-All Dish / Bowl: For keys or mail. I use this word a lot, “smalls,” when it comes to design. It is those items you can hold in the palm of your hand. They are small items, but these small little trinkets truly have a powerful impact on your styling. They will transform your tabletops to feel finished. You can use small decorative spheres or even a small trinket bowl to catch your keys.
- Something organic: I am a stickler when it comes to adding a natural element. You can add a vase with fresh florals, a terrarium with succulents, or simply a conch shell or a polished agate to add a unique pop of an organic element.
