Anti-Inflammatory Foods
The last month of 2019 was not the easiest. I actually drove myself to the ER, twice! Yup. Twice. The muscle pain in my back was too much. I couldn’t bear it anymore and nothing was working. Then, after a couple of doctor visits, I decided to head into the new decade taking control of the pain. Not with muscle relaxers, or steroids, or prescription pain killers. But targeting the inflammation and revamping my grocery list with all Anti-Inflammatory Foods.
The week before Christmas I was home ironing with the TV on when Kelly Ripa shared her story of why she began to live an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. She had unexplained joint pain.
She mentioned the doctor that told her the cause of her pain was in fact inflammation in her body and that she could change it all by removing the FOODS THAT CAUSE INFLAMMATION. He helped her revamp her diet and thankfully has since written a book. T
I jumped on the internet and bought the book, Get Off Your Acid. I couldn’t put it down. I ended up grabbing two more books, cookbooks, to help me alter what I should eat and was putting in my body. I bought Anti-Inflammatory Diet for Beginners: A No-Stress Meal Plan with Easy Recipes to Heal the Immune System and ย Anti-Inflammatory Diet & Action Plans.
Get Off Your Acid was an eye-opening read. One example that changed my daily habit was what I discovered about sparkling waters. Every day I was drinking La Croix. I use to believe that a can of La Croix could not hurt. I mean it wasn’t diet coke? I literally believed that because it was zero calories, no artificial sweeteners, that a can of carbonated water could not be hurting me. I didn’t drink any other carbonated drinks.
As Dr. Daryl Gioffre, author of Get Off Your Acid stated, Kelly Ripa thought that drinking carbonated water “….every single day…was hydrating herself. Many people drink carbonated water thinking that it’s actually hydrating them but carbonated water breaks down into something called carbonic acid, which is one of the most acidic substances in the body and that was really one of the biggest things that she learned as we started uncovering this that was causing a lot of her inflammation.”
I haven’t had sparkling water in over a month! I will admit, within three days I felt a difference. This was when I knew I had to keep going. Now, I ddin’t want to just start buying different foods start the next day. I took my time reading up on everything. Creating a plan and actually getting myself mentally prepared for change.
After reading the books I felt prepared to head to my local grocery, Jewel-Osco and fill my kitchen with what I needed. From fresh veggies and fruits to vitamins/supplements, if you want a jump-start your 2020, here is what I stocked-up on.
My Shopping List:
Change wonโt happen overnight but I can tell you this, Iโm down 4 pounds and my back pain is 98% better and I have not taken a prescription in 5 weeks! ๐๐
Feel free to ask questions about what I bought and why in the comments. Cause after all my reading, I am a mommy expert ๐
Letโs do this together! ๐

I, too, started getting rid of the inflammatory stuff a year ago. I also take some premium plant-based supplements that also help balance the body’s ph among other positive benefits. I turn 65 on February 3rd. My cholesterol levels have improved dramatically and my hair and nails are healthy and strong. Going strong at 65! Woohoo!
