Whether you are updating your bedding or creating a perfect retreat for your guests this holiday season, finding the perfect bedding and adding in the layers for that 5-star hotel feel and look is always my goal. I recently discovered the most amazing bed sheets, quilt, duvet cover and thought I share my tips on the anatomy of the perfect bed so that every night you can crawl in and feel like a guest in your own home.
Anatomy Of The Perfect Bed
Naturally, you start with a mattress that works for your sleeping patterns and desires. I was excited to finally get rid of my 15-year-old mattress and upgrade to an organic option. Don’t forget to add a mattress cover, I have a thick cover that is made to protect my new mattress from natural wear and tear.
Now comes the fun part, the anatomy of the perfect bed is all about the feel of the sheets, how they are folded and how everything is layered.
For this bed, I opted for the Beach Club Sheet Set in midnight from Serena & Lily. I loved that not only is it woven with 100% pure and eco-friendly cotton, no harmful chemicals, but it is also amazingly gentle to the skin. Once you have placed your fitted sheet over the mattress cover, tuck in the corners at the end of the bed like wrapping a present.
Quick Tip: Tuck the sides of the bed first and then the end of the bed towards the front, so it creates a triangle, like wrapping a present.
TIP: All top sheets are placed “upside down,” so when you fold over the top, the border design is visible.
Then, top off with the Cambria Quilt. I prefer the feel and comfort of a quilt versus a blanket. Repeat the same fold. Sides first then the bottom of the quilt.
When it comes to the duvet cover I always opt for white. Just like in a luxurious hotel, the duvet covers will always be white. Can you imagine walking in and the duvet cover is darker? eek, doesn’t feel as clean, so for my guests, I will always have white covers. As for my own bed, I opted for the Border Frame Duvet cover with a white border. The covers can get dirty easily and white is easiest to remove stains.

Adding accent pillows and a new mirror or art piece is perfect to complete the space. I layered my pillows with two extra Euro Shams in the matching Border Frames of the Duvet Cover. Then an extra set of sleeping pillows, always.
I wanted to keep it simple with Montecito Pillow, I love the size (for sitting upright to read) and the texture is truly unexpected. Just gorgeous. I topped it off with Addie Stripe Tassel pillow, I actually got two of these lumbar pillows. I can place both on the bed or just one and the other on the accent chair to tie it all together.
To finish off the space I added the fabulous black-framed Ojai Mirror as a statement maker!

When you have guests over you can’t forget your guest towels. We all have them, those towels that only the guests can use. I wanted something special for them but once they arrived, well, I wanted another set for me to enjoy daily. The Healdsburg Bath Towels are luxurious and have a beautiful hand-knotted tassel fringe. I topped these off with the Banded Border Hand and Wash Towels plus the Turkish Bath Mat.
