This past week, in my Instagram stories, I shared how I get through the day and like all working moms, how I get it all done and still make sure to be there for my kids. I talked a lot about time-blocking and how it helped me NOT feel too overwhelmed. Basically creating a work schedule that was right for me. There are some great articles online about Time Blocking. I researched and learned all about it and then adjusted it to fit me, a working mom that, well, works “from home.” I also needed it to seamlessly work into my lifestyle.
How To Use Time Blocking
I created a general spreadsheet of my time blocking and then printed it on an 8×12 and a smaller version, postcard size. I keep one at my desk and one in my daily agenda. Yup, I still use the pen to paper planner. Now, don’t get me wrong, I survive with Calengoo. That app is connected to my husband’s schedule and automatically updates from the kid’s sports app and school calendar too.
Every morning, I wake up and write down in my day in my planner, the kid’s schedule, my schedule, and my must To-Do list. I fill in the daily schedule based on my time-blocks. I survive using the Start Planner for those interested in a great Goal Setting / To-Do / Daily or Weekly Style planner
How I Time Block
- The first blocks are what I “get” (aka have to / mandatory) to do as a mom.
- My next set of blocks (are my largest blocks) are tasks that will truly benefit my work, they have a direct impact on my success. 2+ hours
- Then I have set up the rest of my blocks as those that take less than 1 hour. Dinner prep, emails, carpools etc.
