I know I know. I am in the middle or end of my kitchen renovation and I decide to take on the One Room Challenge. But, I always knew that once the kitchen was done I would give the dining room a facelift. My dining room has been our storage area / kitchen for the last 2 months. So, naturally it needed to be the next room to get updated. I know that the One Room Challenge Dining Room has a 6 week timeline and I am ready! So come back here every Thursday to see it come together. In the mean time, here is our dining room the day we moved in and the little progress I have made since then.
One Room Challenge Dining Room
When we moved in we didn’t have the savings to paint the entire home and refinish all the floors. For us, it was move in ready and frankly, it was very nicely well done not long before we moved in. Remember, this was 13 years ago. Beige on beige on beige was trending.
Within a year we found a dining set at an estate sale and I was able to add some art and pieces to my China cabinet, but I didn’t change except paint all the trim white. It was more of a yellow when we moved it, and I guess I always had a thing for bright white trim.
A couple years in I added a Pottery Barn Rug, some new window curtains and not much else until five years ago when I added a new light fixture and changed out my dining chairs.
The light fixture is the Orb from Ballard Designs, the white chairs were Ikea slipcovered chairs and the side chairs were an auction win that you can read how I scored original bamboo chippendale side chairs for only $20 each in a that previous post.
BALLARD DESIGNS
Orb Chandlier
I purchased this almost 5 years ago and I still like it, only issue is that it is a painted gold not a solid brass finish. Considering changing it.
WAYFAIR DIAN GLOBE
This chandelier has a comparable price and great reviews. One to consider if you are looking for a globe look.
If slipcovered chairs is something you have been thinking about. I loved the white slipcovered dining chairs from Ikea. Which is what I have in the above photo. I have since updated those chairs, but more about that later.
Okay, so the plan for the updated One Room Challenge Dining Room will include:
- Paint: Ceiling / Walls / Trim
- Updated Window Treatments
- Updated French Door Hardware
- Updated Sideboard
- New Rug
