When it comes to coffee table styling any table top there are specific design tips that will you make it more visually appealing, for instance, creating height with the magic 3, high medium low. These are the standard tips, but, I always get asked, what exactly do you add? What should I buy for my coffee table? And that is what I want to help you with. I think the coffee table is unlike any other table in the home. For instance, your entryway table, people just pass by it, but they do not sit down around it and spend time there. The coffee table gets more views and longer views. Guest actually sit down and will not only use it to place down a drink, but sit there a bit to have a conversation. For that reason, I like to add three items to help styling my coffee table.
Something Organic or Natural
A vase with fresh floral arrangements are great, but lets be real, that means we have to change it out weekly. I tend to save fresh florals for special occassions during the winter months. Holiday gatherings or a girls night event in my home. Otherwise, succulents are great, as well as orchids. They require little maintenance and will last longer than fresh flowers. NOW, it does not have to a plant or flower. Seashells or even a set of grape wood branches will look GREAT.
Something Personal
I believe our home should tell a story, our story. From the walls to the tabletops. For that reason, I love to put a couple of personal items on our table. For instance, my grandfathers brass calendar and the vintage brass trinket box that houses Peruvian coasters (my husbands family is from Peru). These are items that always start a conversation. Also, on the bottom shelf of my coffee table I keep a vintage family album and our wedding album. Trust me, almost every time, guest will grab them and enjoy looking through.
Something Quirky
I have seen others place a hand figurine or a brass elephant. Just about anything quirky will make your coffee table styling unique. I place vintage glass grapes and a brass jewelry box from World Market with gum balls. Trust me, the gumballs are a hit with everyone. Not so much to eat them but the look, the idea, of having gumballs in a fancy box on your coffee table. It’s just quirky.

Those design suggestions are all so lovely. I am fortunate that my kids are older so it is “safe” to decorate my coffee table with delicate stuff! I love the effect indoor plants give so I guess I will add more of them.
