In Chicago we are on Spring Break, and if you follow me on Instagram, or basically any other social media channel, you would know that we had to cancel our Spring Break trip to Ireland. Wuah Wuah. No joke. We were looking forward to a Europoean getaway old school style. Literally, we had not booked a hotel cause we wanted to Air BnB it, call it by day. Talk about great blog post tips, how does a family of 5 travel to Europe (basically back pack style). Well, that blog post isn’t happening cause my tween got injured. He will be okay, just a sports injury, anyhoo. I am home this week now with the kids and I will not let them stay in all day playing that xbox. It is time to experience some fresh air, old school style. Even if in Chicago we cannot truly be out cause it might snow tomorrow. So we had a day of 50 degrees and sun and I yelled, go outside, lets move the party outside.
Backyard Kid Games
Well, I went online to Wayfair Outdoor Games and found so many great options. You know I easily selected anything solid wood, just feels more organic to play with and I loved all the old school options. From a giant connect four game to lawn dice. The choices are endless and with summer right around the corner, they are great options for outdoor parties with friends and family , adults and kids alike.
So, I told the kids, “lets sit and play.” They looked at me like I was crazy. Reason is, I have a tween, then a 9 year-old and a 4 year-old. It is NOT often we can find a “board game” of sorts that everyone will enjoy, including mommy. Well, what I loved with all the game ideas from Wayfair was that they were also great for a parent-only outdoor party too to a kids backyard gathering. When I saw this toppling timbers set I knew it would be the first of many great outdoor games for both kids and adults.
WAIT FOR IT! Old School outdoor games make for the best laughter. I loved to see how the kids actually laughed, like belly gut laughed for the moment someone pulled the wrong brick.
I know that this is the first of more games I will be adding to our backyard kid game collection. Here are some ideas to start your own so you can move the party outdoors this Summer.
Giant Checkers // Lawn Dice // Cornhole Board // Toppling Timbers // Bowling

That’s too bad about the Ireland Vacay. I would be so upset, but at least you got outside and had some fun. Giant jenga looks like so much fun!
Cecilia Cannon says
The timbers are awesome! kids loved it. We were upset but what can you do.
Gladys Parker says
I love the expressions as the game is falling. My adult children would like playing this at the bbq’s or bond fires. I myself would probably enjoy the bowling also. Sorry you missed your trip.
Cecilia Cannon says
Thank Gladys! we were bummed but we needed to stay back. We made the best of it. And seeing them belly laugh was well worth it.

Now that is a really amazing backyard game to play. It’s a king sized version of what I already have for indoors. I must buy this as the trio and I love outdoor time together. Would be super entertaining!
Cecilia Cannon says
Thanks Brandy! It is so fun to play “life-size” version of those indoor games. Perfect for the backyard.

Looks like you made the best of an unfortunate situation. My mom used to do the same thing to use during our breaks. We weren’t allowed to just sit around and watch tv. It was go outside and play. I’m so glad she did that because I still love to go out and get fresh air.
Cecilia Cannon says
exactly getting out and playing, like the good old days
Elle (Cleverly Changing) says
We love playing these types of games in our backyard. We got our wooden large Jenga set from home depot a few years ago and we’ve been having tons of fun.
Becca Wilson says
I am so sorry that you won’t get to go on your trip. Looks like you have found a great way for the kids to get outside though!
Cecilia Cannon says
We did! We made it a pretty decent Spring break.
Heather says
My kids would love this! With spring here, we are ready to spend more time outdoors. I’m a little competitive so I may need to get in some early practice.
