Mixing Dining Room Chair Styles
I waited ten years from my dining room chairs. Literally it took ten years. I always knew I wanted two style chairs, a host/hostess’ chair with a slipcover fabric and then eight distinct original Chippendale bamboo side chairs. However, if I had gone out to purchase these chairs, my cost would have been around $5,000 and that is even a little conservative since, I wanted original chippendale chairs and not the current retail versions “made in China.” I waited patiently checking craigslist and estate sales religiously. Then it happened.
One day while checking an auction site, I found eight natural wood ORIGINAL Chippendale side chairs. Only bad news was it was almost at the Illinois border, but, I didn’t let that stop me. I jumped in the car early the next morning and made sure to be first at the door. I was expecting to write a big check at the auction, but, who knew that I would be the only one interested in the chairs. I almost had a heart attack when I won all eight side chairs for $20 a piece.
Mixing Dining Room Chair Styles
Now, I have my two versions of dining room chairs and I love the mixed style look. The only thing I keep debating is whether or not to have the chippendale chairs painted white or light gray. I have been loving the natural wood finish but it just doesn’t mesh with my overall look and truly with my original desire to have the all white chairs with dark wood dining table.
What would you do?
If I am going to mix styles I don’t like it to get too crazy. For instance, I have seen dining rooms with three (sometimes four) different styles. Though this can work, in most cases it just doesn’t. I like to pick only two different style chairs and then unify them with the same color fabric on both. It isn’t as adventurous and crazy as some style mixing but it is timeless. If I can get more years out of styling my spaces I will! Check out these great dining room chair combinations, truly done right and take a chance and shop the look below.
