Kid Friendly Bathroom
Okay, kid friendly bathroom tip #2: A Shower Niche. We have shampoo bottles, conditoner, body wash, rubber duckies and more. I needed to create a space to put them down without having it fall into the tub or floor. In fact my #1 design request when interviewing contractors was a LARGE shower niche. I mean either really really long or really really deep. I didn’t get the LONG version because of the pipes and issues behind the wall, but I did get the really deep with semi-long, which I love. Like literally love the size and how it turned out.
When creating a shower niche, make sure to take height from the bottom of the tub into account. You don’t want to place it too high that the kids can’t reach it.
And here is the niche REALITY (in use).
lol, just kidding about the glass of wine, being funny. just kidding. not kidding. I’m kidding.
Okay, kid friendly bathroom tip #3: The width of your sink does matter! Before I had a large Kohler sink and loved it. However, because of it’s width only one person could brush their teeth at the same time, you know, in front of the sink. SO I opted for Kohler’s Devonshire Pedestal sink, it is great for a tighter space but still has a large back width to house all the kids stuff. It literally allows for three, yes three, kids to brush their teeth at the same time.
Kid Friendly Bathroom
When I say I thought of every inch for the kids, I really did, literally.
Next, kid friendly bathroom tip #4: Those darn shower curtains. I use to have the classic “S” shaped shower curtain hooks, but for miraculously my kids always managed to get it loose. You know, where the curtain comes off the hook. They also somehow managed to not remember to put the entire curtain over the tub so water wouldn’t come out. Lastly, they complained how dark it was on their side of the shower when they showered. I know. They have a tough life.
Well I couldn’t believe that on a random day I found this hookless shower curtain at Bed Bath & Beyond and it is perfect. I love that it is hookless, no way the kids can get it off, and it doesn’t look cheap. I love that is is SUPER long and touches the floor on the outside while being a little shorter on the tub side. I love that there is ZERO PVC or plastic and it’s all fabric. I love that it has a separate detachable inner lining I can wash when needed, and I love that it has a mesh upper lining to allow for MORE light and visibility. No more darker showers
Okay, kid friendly bathroom tip #5: The most important one of all. If you are a mom of boys you know that there is absoltely positively no way they can aim. I still don’t understand. The target is a huge hole over 12 inches wide in circumference. Like, how do they miss? Also, it was my pet peeve that urine, there I said it, that pee got in between the tank and the toilet seat. Disgusting. So I opted for the one piece Kohler Adhair Comfort Height toilet and LOVE IT!
Now, no more hard to reach messes if you know what I mean. After 3-4 months of design planning and install the “grown-up” bathroom is all done with kids in mind and no one would ever be the wiser. To see the full list of product information just check out my Bathroom Reveal Post.
