Staining Hardwood Floors Grey
So not sure if you remember, but, a few weeks ago we were in the midst of deciding what shade of grey to stain my clients hardwood floors. We knew we did not want to go the traditional route of dark walnut but give new life to hardwood flooring in this new build.
We started off by exploring three stain mixes all by miniwax. Classic gray, classic gray with weathered oak 50/50 and then a lighter mix of weather oak and gray
Can you guess what we went with?
Yup! so we went with a 50/50 mix of classic grey and weathered oak. It couldn’t be more perfect. We could have lightened the classic grey, and had a lighter version of the top sample, thus 100% grey flooring, but I didn’t want the home to be “too trendy.”
I wanted to make sure the floors were not following last decades trend of dark walnut, but at the same time, knowing that trends fade, I wanted it to be timeless and still competitive. By mixing a weathered oak with classic grey, we got hints of grey in the grain while still feeling casual, updated, and timeless.
I love the stairs. Truly makes you want to kick off your sandy flip flops and plop down after a long day at the beach.
