We have all heard of the man cave. Some people even design entire basements around the man cave. Well, what about the women’s cave, also known as the She Shed. The “shed” or “cave” can be a room in the home, a space in the basement, or even an exterior she shed, but it is space that is designed for her to be creative, be alone, or entertain her friends.
So, when Chairish asked me to design my women’s cave I knew exactly what I wanted and how to get it. For me the space is going to serve three purposes.
Work
Relaxation
Entertaining
She Shed
My dream women’s cave!
Okay, so how did I incorporate my three main goals
Work: I want a space that I can be creative in. A large dining table used as a desk to spread out my creative mess and computer. Or maybe, one day I want to simply put my feet up while working on my laptop on a vintage hot pink love seat. Why Not?
But I definitely need storage for books, mags, fabrics, and more. A vintage inspired chinoiserie cabinet hits the mark without looking too like ikea shelves.
Relaxation: Sometimes you just want an escape in your own home. A space to unwind, pour a glass of Kim Crawford and read a good book (in my case design magazine). But, I have always wanted a space that if a girlfriend knocked on the door, I would invite her in for a drink and, we would plop ourselves down, put our feet up, and catch up about life, the family, and solve world problems.
Entertain: My new obsession is having a desk that serves also as a conference table for meetings, or get this, entertain my girls. Okay, so imagine this, “girls night in” at my house. Instead of the usual kitchen island gathering, we take our yummy bites, spread it over the large desk/dining table, and pour ourselves some delicious drinks from the vintage bar cart. The girls can sit around the table to eat and chat, or some might grab a spot on the bar stools, catching up while not getting too far from the drinks, and others might get comfy on the couch.
Either way, I want it.
The entire design was based off of the barstools. I love the how versatile they can be. I mean I can even imagine them on my dream kitchen island! But, maybe I will be selfish and keep them in my cave. All the furnishings are also available on Chairish. Here are the individual pieces, or as always, shop the look below.
She Shed
Maybe you already have the heavy furnishings just need some light accessories to enhance your space. What I love about shopping for clients on Chairish are not only the prices but quality. Plus, don’t forget my new go-to favorite piece of furniture, the table / desk. If I ever get to take an entire room of the home for myself, I would use a wood dining table as a desk, conference table, and it will still be easily interchangeable into a eating space for business lunches and meetings. Oh, and don’t forget, it is all about wallpaper again! I am obsessing over Milton & King. I am using on of their designs in an upcoming project so stay tuned for that.
