Decorating Ideas For Outdoor Spaces
A huge thank you to World Market for sponsoring today’s post
I am so excited summer is here, cause that means I get to style my outdoor living spaces. Two years ago I started investing in the heavy furnishings for our two outdoor living spaces. We have a side “entrance” deck and a firepit lounge area. All the spaces were lacking in, well, in everything. At the end of last summer I finally purchased our last set of lounge chairs. Yes, I waited for the end of summer sales. So, when summer finally came around last week I was eager to enjoy our outdoor spaces, but then, my heart sank. It was so blah. Like literally, just a bunch of brown furniture with blue cushions. I knew I needed to add pops of color and my one stop shop is World Market.
Check out my sad before pictures. I mean, they are so sad it might hurt.
Okay, so the easiest way to add pops of color to your space is with pillows, and, I went all crazy on pillows. It is the best way to spruce up any outdoor living space. World Market has so many styles and colors to choose from at amazing prices, that truthfully I think we should stock up. That way I can change them out for themed summer parties. World Market online also has a nifty tool that helps you mix and match them to create your own unique pairings. Frankly, I like the mix over the match part if you know what I mean. No more matchy matchy.
Have fun with your pillows and don’t worry about being all matchy matchy. Also, we tend to stick to flowers and geometric patterns. Branch out from you comfort zone and grab some pillows with graphics. I opted for the flamningos, because, well, I have never purchased anything with flamingoes on them and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone.
Now, besides pillows, I am obsessing over World Markets variety of drum stools. From metal to wicker and even uphosltered outdoor poufs! I know! So, I grabbed one of their Dimitri Drum Stools in the pop of color that was in my most graphic pillow. My most graphic pillow is the flamingo throw pillow. Using the strongest color from the pillows you need to repeat that color in the space to create movement. For that reason I used the stool in the red orange shade or bright coral.
Now, I have this large chaise that needed a pop of color and I didn’t want to repeat a pattern that was already repeated in the two loveseats, so I just grabbed a completely different lumbar pillow with the slight hint of green found in both accent pillows.
As you can see we have a firepit, but there are days that we host too large of a party with kids running around that I place my DIY Firepit cover on top and use it as a table. Or sometimes, it’s simply too hot to have the fire blazing, so I love the idea of a glow at night with World Markets many lanterns. I love the size and shape of their hexagon lantern collection and I placed a few of these around the firepit. It gives a bright glow in the evenings, oh la la.
Okay, so that takes care of the firepit area, now, may I remind me of my sad side deck. oh so sad.
Well, not anymore!
I know, I’m in love. I just love this deck so much now. I am literally writing this post sitting under the umbrella drinking lemonade. Perfection! This deck use to have just two lonely chairs and not much else. Don’t forget, when styling any space, start with the flooring. World Market makes amazing outdoor rugs that are incredibly weatherproof. You can hose them down or wipe off spills and messes.
I knew that this would be a space where I could relax on a Sunday morning with my coffee or work on my laptop. With the sun directly overhead, I was in heaven to discover small umbrellas or half umbrellas to add some shade and height to the space. Also, more drum stools. I told you I was obsessing with these. Now, whoever said white isn’t a color? When styling this space I had already purchased ultra bright green cushions. I didn’t want to create a neon deck with too many bright colors, for that reason, I opted to use the white in the floor mat as my throw color in accessorizing with a cluster of floornaments. I made sure to carry the base color, blue, from all my outdoor spaces into the side deck with the floor plant, pillows and outdoor mats. This way I have unified the entire outdoor space without being all matchy matchy.
What do you think? How have you added pops of color to your outdoor space?
