Last week I posted how much I loved my new Graber Roman Shades from Zebrablinds, well, now I want to tell you how much I dislike the Graber black out shades from Costco.
My kids bedrooms needed new black-out shades. I knew exactly what I wanted, black-out, cordless cellular shades. Easy, right?
After being stopped by the Costco rep a few times I thought, why not? Costco is known for its good prices, and more often than not, quality. I also loved the Graber custom fabric roman shades so what could go wrong.
Well, apparently, a lot can go wrong.
The point of black out shades is to not let light in, BUT, if they don’t stay down, then it’s just pointless.
Apparently, if you keep the blinds down too long, meaning during the night when you are asleep, they will not go all the way back up. Like, literally, they hang heavy 3/4 down your window.

In My Son’s Room
I hate this. I am a big “let the sun shine in” every day type person. So when your shades won’t stay up it just gets on my nerves. You can see in my boys room how it hangs more than 5 inches below the valance which makes the valance pointless!
Watch this video of how the blinds don’t stay up to let in the sun.
You see, so every morning when we open the blinds, they fall back down, sometimes halfway. ugh.
Okay, so I called and they said keep them up more. Um, okay. Well, I am not keeping them up at night, but I will be vigilant to open them daily. Well, guess what. My kids will eventually go back down to bed within 12 hours. After the blinds stay open all day (10-12 hours), I try to pull them back down and they don’t stay all the way down.
The point of black out shades is not to let in light. So I want the blinds to go ALL THE WAY down, not roll back up. I learned I can make it come down all the way if I stay there pulling and pulling a few times. So convenient when you have 3 kids to get to bed (enter sarcasm).
Now, I am not sure if this is Costco getting a cheaper version of Graber Cellular Shades, and had I gone direct to Graber it would have been better quality, but guess what? The cost of the blinds were not any cheaper than going to a direct Graber provider. Turns out, I didn’t save a penny using Costco’s representative.
Anyhoo, long story short. Don’t go to Costco for their Graber Cellular Shades.
Sorry, Costco, I do love other products, but not these!
