5 Tips to Improve Your Blogger SEO
There is all this SEO talk and how important it is to improve SEO for your blogs and website. I get it, what’s the point of having a website or blog if no one can find it. So, you have to have good SEO. Well then, okay, I will make sure to use some keywords and hope for the best, right?
Umm, no! Apparently it is a little bit more complicated then that. But, how hard can it be. I mean, I have gotten into come coding on my websites, some other technical crap, so SEO can’t be that hard to figure out. I began my google search and realized, there are millions of articles out there about how to improve your SEO, some are written for the computer wiz so I wouldn’t even try to decipher those, and others were just to simple, like, “use good keywords,” YEAH I GOT THAT PART!
After hours and hours of researching, I discovered why SEO is important, how SEO works, and WHAT do do with it on my own blog or website.
Now I want to share what I learned.
Now I want to share what I learned.
I am not a fan of women entrepreneurs or women bloggers who can’t share their knowledge. Trust me, it will come back to bite them in the — tush. I have always been one to share what I know, I wish someone would take the time to share with me and when they do I am so grateful.
With that said, I decided to put a post together that was simple, to the point, and had instant updates you can make on your own website or blog.
So grab a pen and paper and take notes.
Okay, now lets break down SEO into 2 parts
PART ONE: SEO for your ENTIRE blog
PART TWO: SEO for each of your blog posts.
I learned that you need to have great SEO for your entire blog and not just each post, and the tips for each are different. So lets dive into Part One
PART ONE: 5 Tips for Good SEO For Your Entire Blog
Tip 1: HAVE YOUR BLOG POST TITLE COME BEFORE YOUR BLOG NAME IN GOOGLE SEARCH
What??? you ask. Okay, so people google search what they are looking for NOT your blog name. For example, someone might google search “Antique Plate Wall Gallery” well, whadda know, I have a blog post about that. This random individual is not going to google Home with Keki Plate Wall Gallery cause they probably don’t even know I exist. Okay, well more like 100% they don’t know my blog exists. So, before my google search looked like this
You see how my blogs name is first and then the google search phrase/blog post title.
Well, that is a big SEO NO NO!
You need to have your google search come up like this image below
You see now how my blog name is now after what someone might actually type in when googling Antique Plate Gallery Wall.
Okay, so how do you do that? This requires a little bit of coding but it is so easy. If you are nervous make sure to download your blog template first or save it.
Now follow these steps.
- Go into you Templates > Edit HTML >Search or type Ctrl + F to find the following code <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> for me it was around line 15, towards the top of the coding. okay, so you found it.
- Now, replace that entire line/code with the following.
<b:if cond=’data:blog.pageType == "item"’>
<title><data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title>
<b:else/>
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
</b:if>
NOW SAVE!
You have to wait 2-3 days to see the changes on google. I kept checking and finally 3 days later the changes started happening. It takes a couple days for google to catch up with your new code.
Tip #2: ADD A META DESCRIPTION FOR YOUR ENTIRE BLOG NOT JUST EACH BLOG POST
WHAT? I know, I had to google meta description first too, but don’t bother I’ll just sum it up. It is basically the snippet that appears under your links on google explaining to searchers what your ENTIRE blog is about. Now, we will want to add meta description for each of your blog post too, but that is coming up later.
Okay, so follow these steps.
- Settings > Search Preferences > Meta Tags > Description and Click Edit Link
- Click the “yes” radio button
- Enter the meta description for your blog, this will appear on your home page
- Click “save” changes
Now, don’t write a grocery lists of words to describe your blog, this doesn’t help in the meta description for the entire blog. Literally sum up your blog in 1 phrase/sentence using 3 keywords at the beginning.
Use this great tool, Meta Checker, and it will analyze all your posts and pages meta tags. AWESOME!
TIP #3 : USE SIMPLE LANGUAGE & CONTENT WITH A SINGULAR FOCUS THROUGHOUT EACH PAGE
This is an easy one. Basically, for your home and other page titles, plus for your blog titles, don’t go all fancy Nancy on your writing. For instance, lets say you made homemade candles for the holidays. Then use 3 keywords for it: DIY Holiday Candles. Don’t call it: Fantastical holiday aroma candles Made In Your Own Kitchen.
TIP #4 NAME IMAGES WITH KEY PHRASES & GIVE THEM ALT DESCRIPTIONS
From now on do not upload images to your site that are still labeled _img_086948.jpg. Images are great tools in helping your blog or business website thanks to ranking and Pinterest. So take the extra time to have each image labeled with key words and go ahead and use your brand name too.
DON’T DO THIS
DO THIS
You can alter your image titles on you computer, in picmonkey, or photoshop.
TIP #5 SOCIALIZE: USE SOCIAL MEDIA WITH TITLE TAGS AND WITH SUBSTANCE
Social media is just that, a platform to be social. Don’t just go on there and only tweet and promote your brand. Visit other blogs and comment with care. Be social, the more you get out there the more exposure it will bring organically to your own blog, thus, helping in your SEO. But here are some key steps.
- Establish yourself on Google+ Get this, Google+ takes the lead in the single highest correlation with google search rankings and SEO. In other words, “it beats out ALL other metrics…and has an immediate impact on SEO.” (source) Make sure you carve out some time for google+ and not just instagram or twitter.
- When on social media, title tag images. Primary Word – Secondary Word / Brand Name in 55 characters or less
- Check out Coschedule Headline Analyzer. Great tool! Literally plug in your headline and it will analyze it for you.
- Use a social media scheduler! No one can be on social media 24/7. I use both buffer and then hootsuite for my blog. I prefer buffer for my blog posts because it utilizes bitly, but I do add hootsuite when my “free” buffer is maxed out. Lastly, I am obsessed with Boardbooster for Pinterest.
OKAY, so those are my 5 main tips for better SEO for your entire blog. I needed a couple days to work on it and take it all in. So stay tune, later this week I will posts my 5 Tips to Improve SEO for each Blog Post.

Great tips! Are you on blogspot or WordPress because I couldn't find your code options on the backend of my site. Also Google Authorship no longer exists. http://searchengineland.com/goodbye-google-authorship-201975

thanks So Chic Life. I updated the wording, as I meant to "establish yourself on google+" This was a new one for me as I did not invest myself too much on Google+, until now. Also, thanks for checking in and sharing your tips! It is so nice when women entrepreneurs help one another! The possibilities would be endless. Happy Holidays
