A few years ago I wanted to start an Antique Plate Gallery Wall in my dining room with plates, and yes, it is still a work in progress. It’s not in me to do a one stop shop and pick up a collection, but to find the right pieces that I truly enjoy, even if it takes a little longer.
Antique Plate Gallery Wall
So, I am missing a plate of some kind in the upper left corner, see pic below. I am hoping for something square or oblong. In the mean time, I thought I post the work in progress so far.
So each plate and that water color all have a story of course! Check out the up close shots below.
First and foremost, I knew I wanted a blue and white color scheme. So all plates but one follow the trend.
That one unique plate that is below the water color was actually my grandmothers. So it holds a special place. I also love how it has the same colors as the portrait above it, pulling the colors out.
Yeah, so that water color above, was a portrait of a vase of flowers I did in third or fourth grade. I was so mad how it turned out that I threw it in the garbage. My mom apparently pulled it out and framed it. I was shocked, I was not proud of it. But BOY WAS SHE RIGHT! Years later I love the “not so perfect” rendition.
Okay so back to the plates.
I use gold plate holders with rubber grips. See picture below. They are tight, strong, durable, and don’t scratch. I have a lot of kids that go running around the house, the last thing I need is one of the plates to come flying off the wall.
Some last set of images from the dining table. The view you get when enjoying one of our family holiday dinners!
