Last summer we took the leap and removed our backyard playset and replaced it with some pavers and a firepit. Read all about that 3 part process under projects.
It was an easy process, but, after living with it for the summer I knew what was missing.
1. More furnishings 🙂
2. The firepit was too low
3. Side walkway needed matching limestone and sod NOT pebble stones
Okay, no problem, I can do this.
Yup, no joke, all by me-self.
Yup, no joke, all by me-self.
I began with removing all the pebbles on the side. Seriously not as easy as one would think.
After way too many back-breaking hours in the sun I was left with this.
okay, no problem. I just lay sod, right?
Well, not according to Mr. Google. OH NO, you can’t just lay sod, you have to turn the clay dirt and gravel, add fresh dirt, wet it, turn it, and then lay sod. Don’t worry, there was a lot of swearing going on.
Okay, so I took a couple days off and headed to Lurveys. LOVE THIS PLACE. A very nice patient guy walked me through the process and gave me the confidence to continue.
BUT GET THIS!!! Sod runs out early in the morning. All the landscapers line up before opening and grab the fresh sod. So apparently you have to be there early. Well, I have 3 kids, 2 of whom wake up at the crack of dawn. No alarm clock needed, I was going to beat those landscapers.
UMMMM, in your face landscapers. Check the time on the clock. I beat all of you and first in line. What you don’t see is that all 3 of my kid are with me. Yup, hubby works a lot and is not even home at that time to have helped. sigh.
okay, so as I pull up no joke, my new guy friend at Lurveys had a big smile. I want sod and I got it.
BUT, guess what now? You have to lay it down that same day.
great.
But I did it!
Only issue, I didn’t have enough stone for a “landing” in the far back and I was one roll short. But I did finally complete it, after a week or so the sod has meshed in with the grass and looks flawless, more importantly, not a roll has turned yellow!!
