So, I wanted to give our powder room a little drama. Lets be honest, it is the one room most guests will see. Also, it is the smallest space in the house that you can have some fun with. The space is usually small enough that if you make the wrong decision you won’t feel that bad.
I also loved the idea that when my guests went to the powder room, they could not only do their business, check their makeup, but read a little something on the wall to make them smile. I mean, why not.
Powder Room
A couple summers ago, I was at Elkhorn Flea Market and found a vintage LIFE Magazine advertisement. It made me smile. It was a mom and kid at the park. BUT!!! you will see below why it made me smile. I loved it and knew it was perfect for the powder room.
I also knew that I wanted to put up some pictures of my kids in the powder room. But, not your typical portrait pics. Something that would make them (my kiddos) even smile at themselves when they came out of taking care of business.
I also wanted to have fun with the color. I also suggest to have fun with color or wallpaper in the powder room. Why not!! Even though my powder room is the size of a airplane bathroom (you literally cannot spread your arms out straight) I didn’t care about painting it dark. I would have gone black, but knew that was a little much for the hubby. So I picked Kendall Charcoal, HC-166, by Benjamin Moore.
Now, I knew with the deep dark color and the size of the space, I needed a large mirror to counteract the feel. To help make it feel a little more spacious. Luckily, around the time of finishing the space I found on a Facebook Virtual Garage Sale site a mirror. A local friend was selling her Restoration Hardware Pivot Mirror. Done Deal! I had my eye on this mirror but just wasn’t ready to make the plunge in costs, so I couldn’t believe my luck when it popped up on the site.
Anyhoo, the space is finally done. On to the next project.
