A couple weeks ago, I wrote about our breakfast nook fabric fiasco and how I had been on the hunt for an affordable, but cute, laminated/vinyl fabric. Basically, when we first bought our home there was a custom made laminated fabric bench. It was great, but just not our style. We let it run it’s course and finally decided to change it out.
Looking for cute and affordable vinyl fabric was not a successful endeavour. Seven years ago, there just wasn’t a demand for stylish vinyl. I gave up and settled for Sunbrella Outdoor Fabric. It was durable, and it at the time, perfect for our kitchen.
Breakfast Nook
Well, in case you don’t know, I have two boys. It was great and lasted a good three years before it turned into this.
Well, in case you don’t know, I am a clean, O.C.D type-A person. As you can imagine, this was driving me crazy. Granted, I guess three years with two boys is actually not that bad. However, I knew that moving forward I would go ahead and invest in purchasing fabric and getting it laminated. But, you won’t believe what happened in the last few years. Apparently, I wasn’t the only person demanding more stylish vinyl. The option had grown and I had a lot to pick from.
This Breakfast Nook is not only where the kids eat every day, but, it is where they sit to do homework, crafts, help me bake, and simply just hang out. For that reason, I always wanted to make it bright and fun. I really make an effort when decorating my house to include the “feelings” of those who live there. AND I live with three boys (that includes my husband). I try not to be one of those people that cover the home in floral, reds, pinks, and make it overly feminine, knowing it is quite a boys home. Even though my husband allows me to do what I please, I want him to feel comfortable in his abode.
So, for this breakfast nook, I decided to add a little fun design, same color scheme, with a touch of more femininity but not going crazy.
It is perfect. Trust me, the boys (okay the 5-year old) has spilled something on it everyday. I think he is just trying to test it (or me).The colors are exactly what I already have in the kitchen and the style is a little more me- vintage with a whimsical feel.

Ohhh….such a great style! This is going to be my spring project- spray painting my kitchen chairs and covering the seats with vinyl fabric. I'll let you know when the boys can come test out my fabric! Gorgeous!

Hey Cecilia! I'm looking to upholster our kitchen banquette in a vinyl or laminate that can hold up to three boys. Did you buy your fabric locally or at fabric.com? Also, do you have a local upholster to recommend?

Hi Megan! Sorry for delay response. Your comment went to spam but I fixed that. 🙂 I found fabric locally to see if I liked the feel/texture and durability but then I searched online and bought it at fabric.com. Saved almost $100! I always recommend buying online after you have seen a sample in a store etc. and definitely have 2 great Chicago reupholsteres I love! Will PM you their info.
