SO I have this little obsession with vintage makeup cases. I think I am more fond of the lifestyle that came with them then the actual piece. In other words, envisioning the ladies who carried these back in the 1940-1960’s as they traveled through airports, bus or train stations, on their journey’s. My mom told me that grandma had one. I love that idea. That makeup was such a part of their day, that they had the time and patience to sit at a makeup table and get dressed up daily in their skirts and heels…even when traveling!! Today, we all show up in our gym shoes, hair in a bun and comfy pants to travel with makeup (if any) in a baggy somewhere at the bottom of your purse/bag.
Well, I am not going to be traveling with this monstracity of a makeup case (especially since I don’t even own that much makeup) so I knew I was going to repurpose it.
Vintage Makeup Case
In Fall of 2011, I was in upper Michigan (shout out to Glen Arbor), I found this makeup case. I was on the hunt for one that I could use as my tool box. I take tools to all my stagings and client installs.
When I arrive the clients always look at it, probably wondering why I am bringing a vintage makeup case. Then it pops open and I always get a comment, “what I neat idea?” or simply, “OH!!! I was wondering what was in there.”
Here is my repurposed my vintage makeup case. I keep nails, hammer, screwdrivers, ribbons, hot glue gun, tacks, staple gun, art piece hanging tools, measuring tape etc. It fits everything!
Anyway, it’s been a couple years I have been using this one and I am now on the hunt for the next one. Decided I need to have one at home and one that I keep in the company car.
